Ayrshire Consortium for Tourism Training (ACTT)
Offering tailored solutions for a professional tourism workforce.
Ayr College, James Watt College, Kilmarnock College, the Scottish Agricultural College-Auchincruive and the University of Paisley have been working together to provide a networked and innovative approach to the delivery of tourism training.
ACTT aims to support businesses to deliver a world-class tourism product, providing customised programmes in response to the industry needs and includes both skills and management development to ensure improvement performance across a range of areas.
“To provide professional solutions to enhance Ayrshire’s tourism product”.
ACTT offer a free consultancy visit or Training Needs Analysis to businesses to help to identify the types of training required and to discuss the most convenient way to deliver this to individual businesses. This service is on going, but the Consortium is also developing an Event Management course looking towards the needs of Homecoming 2009 and hoping to develop two publications “Careers Pathways” and the “Business and Training Guide”.
The Consortium is currently preparing proposals for Event Management training and relevant units towards preparing businesses and organisation for ‘Homecoming’ and hoping to revive ‘Careers Pathways’ for schools and the ‘Business development and Training Guide’ for tourism businesses
Supporting rationale ACTT aims to facilitate and support the transfer of knowledge to assist Ayrshire in the delivery of a world-class tourism product. We recognise the need to develop a more effective partnership for learning within Ayrshire, in support of the Executive’s Smart Successful Scotland policy of greater economic growth, with secondary objectives from this project that would: · Develop a sustainable learning infrastructure within Ayrshire for the Tourism sector. · In the role of Further/Higher educational establishments, promote and encourage local businesses to participate in continued more formalised learning opportunities and support Lifelong Learning strategy. · Support Business networking/knowledge transfer.
Scope of Interest The tourism industry has diverse needs depending on the sector – from the hospitality organisation to visitor attractions, from transport providers to the retail outlet.
Facilitators ACTT have access to a bank of professional trainers/facilitators with a wide range of experience and knowledge in the tourism and hospitality sector. Delivery of the individual sessions will be from this bank together with specified industry experts. The delivery will be interactive, involving case studies and group discussion as appropriate, and participants will be encouraged to draw upon the experience of their own business. Examples of good practice in each of the subject areas will be highlighted and reinforced within the course notes and training materials.
Accreditation ACTT will provide a certificate to all those successfully completing the training session.
